New Classes This Fall at Sruti Yoga Include Beginner’s Yoga, Kundalini, and QiGong

(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – Yoga for Beginners, Meditation, Kundalini Yoga, QiGong, and afternoon Ashtanga Mysore are just some of the new classes being offered at Sruti Yoga Center this fall, beginning in September 2011.

“It was always my wish to have Sruti serve the community with a variety of entry points and avenues to deepen and explore practices in complementary ways the richness of these health and wellness practices in their traditional, pure forms,” says Amy Webb, founder and owner of Sruti.

While beginners can walk in never having done yoga and work privately with an instructor in all of the Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga classes, Sruti now offers beginners yoga classes led by an instructor on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. Also new to Sruti is a special Meditation for Beginners class, taught by Webb, on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. There is also an “open sit” meditation for all levels on Sundays at 6 p.m.

Kundalini yoga, a practice intended to open up one’s central energy channel, is new to Sruti and will be taught by Maria Mingalone on Tuesdays at 6 p.m., beginning September 13. Ilana Seigal teaches an Anusara-based class on Tuesdays at 10:45 a.m., and Amy teaches a breath-centered moving meditation yoga class Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m.

Also new to Sruti is Sheng Zhen QiGong, based on a Chinese practice of opening the heart and grounding the energy body. Most of the sequence, taught by Rosalind Reis, is practiced sitting in chairs.

While Mysore-style practice, where students practice at their own pace and work individually with a teacher, remains Sruti’s core program and takes place every weekday morning from 8 to 10 a.m., late afternoon Mysore will now be available on Mondays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. These sessions are geared to all levels, but are particularly encouraged for beginners or those merely curious about how ashtanga is practiced.

Sruti Yoga Center is located at 33 Railroad St., 2nd Floor, and offers Yoga for Beginners, traditional Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa, Anusara-based Vinyasa flow, Kundalini yoga, QiGong, Meditation, and Pre-and Post-Natal classes.
