Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore to Perform at Club Helsinki

Thurston Moore

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Sonic Youth cofounder, singer, guitarist and songwriter Thurston Moore performs with his own band at Club Helsinki on Friday, January 27, 2012, at 9 p.m. Rated in the upper reaches of Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the Top 100 Guitarists of All Time, Moore’s concert comes on the heels of his critically lauded 2011 solo album, Demolished Thoughts, produced by Beck.

His fourth solo album, Demolished Thoughts was recorded in Los Angeles and Northampton, Mass., which Moore calls home. The mostly acoustic album features haunting anthems with spacey soundscapes by Beck and brooding violin accompaniment by Samara Lubelski. Moore layers his acoustic guitars for a symphonic effect, and his melodies and unusual chord changes are reminiscent of his work with Sonic Youth, one of the most influential rock groups of the last 30 years.

Last fall Moore and Sonic Youth cofounder Kim Gordon, who sang and played bass for the group, announced the dissolution of their 27 year marriage, putting the future of the seminal No Wave-indie rock group in question.
