Raekwon, Christopher O’Riley, Chris Robinson Due at Colonial in Summer 2012

(PITTSFIELD, Mass.) – Hip-hop legend Raekwon, pianist Christopher O’Riley, and Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson are among the performers slated to perform at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield in summer 2012. Also on the agenda are comedian Bill Engvall, a Leonard Bernstein tribute cabaret featuring Bernstein’s daughter, Jamie Bernstein, the Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats, and Grateful Dead tribute band Dark Star Orchestra, in addition to the previously announced production of A Chorus Line, running at the Colonial July 2-21.

The Dark Star Orchestra revives the Dead on Tuesday, May 22, with its note-for-note recapitulation of a performance by the original jam-band. Raekwon, a founding member of innovative hip-hop ensemble Wu-Tang Clan, brings his heavy beats to downtown Pittsfield on Wednesday, June 13.

The Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats, combining acrobatics, traditional dance, costumes, ancient and contemporary music and theatrical techniques, entertain on Saturday, June 16, with two shows at 2 pm and 7 pm. Black Crowes founder and frontman Chris Robinson brings his new band, the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, to the Colonial on Tuesday, June 26. The band includes Black Crowes keyboardist Adam MacDougall as well as Neal Casal (guitar, vocals), Mark ‘Muddy’ Dutton (bass, vocals) and George Sluppick (drums). “Blue collar” comedian Bill Engvall, host of Country Fried Home Videos, gets lowdown at the Colonial on Saturday, August 4, at 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm.

We Are Women: A Bernstein Cabaret, narrated by Jamie Bernstein and conceived by Michael Barrett and Jamie Bernstein, runs Thursday through Saturday, August 9–12. The program features a Broadway cast performing an array of Bernstein songs, including tunes from his hits On the Town, Candide and West Side Story.

Classical pianist Christopher O’Riley has recorded and performed piano transciptions of works by cult-rock artists including Radiohead, Elliott Smith and Nick Drake. His latest album, Out of My Hands, includes music by R.E.M., Portishead, Cocteau Twins, Pink Floyd, Nirvana and The Smiths, among others. The host of popular NPR radio show From The Top performs on Friday, August 17 .
