(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Jazz-pop vocalist Ann Hampton Callaway brings her cabaret show, “Celebrating The Great American Songbook,” to Club Helsinki Hudson on Sunday, July 7, at 7pm, as part of the Helsinki on Broadway series presented in association with Showstoppers. Returning to Club Helsinki by popular demand, Callaway presents the best of Gershwin, Porter, Rodgers, Arlen, Berlin and Kern.
NEW ‘RITE OF SPRING’ DANCE-THEATER PRODUCTION KICKS OFF BARD SUMMERSCAPE
(ANNANDALE-on-HUDSON, N.Y.) – The Bard SummerScape festival kicks off on Saturday, July 6 at 8pm, with A Rite, a major new dance-theater piece by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and SITI Company. A Rite commemorates the centenary of Stravinsky’s ballet The Rite of Spring and its notorious, game-changing Paris premiere. Both A Rite’s opening night and a second performance on Sunday, July 7 at 3pm will take place in Bard College’s Frank Gehry-designed Fisher Center, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.
LAKE STREET DIVE BRINGS JAZZY POP to CLUB HELSINKI HUDSON
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Lake Street Dive brings its unique fusion of jazz, classical, pop, swing and soul to Club Helsinki Hudson on Saturday, July 6, at 9pm. Lake Street Dive is a unique quartet featuring four jazz- and classical-trained musicians who met at Boston’s New England Conservatory who formed an indie-pop band featuring a trumpet-wielding guitarist, a bassist, a drummer, and a female vocalist with pipes that can seduce you while at the same time they’re knocking you down with sheer power. The wonderful result produces a lazy, strutting New Orleans-inflected version of the Jackson Five’s “I Want You Back” or a steamy jazz-funk version of Hall & Oates’ “Rich Girl.”

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound bring their funky brand of world-beat-influenced rock ‘n’ roll to Club Helsinki Hudson on Thursday, July 4, at 8pm. Cebar’s quirky take on bluesy rock with an underpinning of R&B and jump blues, laced with his witty vocals, buzzfeed guitar licks, and gritty percussion raised on African, Latin and Caribbean influences, is like a Midwestern version of NRBQ, or Frank Zappa meets Tom Waits in the garage with Latin Playboys.
LYLE LOVETT to PERFORM at THE EGG in ALBANY
(ALBANY, N.Y.) – Four-time Grammy Award-winner Lyle Lovett will perform at the Egg with his five-member Acoustic Group on Friday, July 5, at 8 pm, as part of the “American Roots & Branches” Concert Series. Lovett is one of contemporary pop music’s most brilliant and skilled songwriters and entertainers, and his live performances and bands are the stuff of modern-day legend.
CONTEMPORARY REGIONAL SCENES at NEUMANN FINE ART
(HILLSDALE, N.Y.) – There will be an opening reception for The Power of Place, an exhibition featuring oil paintings of contemporary regional scenes by Ken Young and Jeffrey L. Neumann, at Neumann Fine Art on Saturday, July 6, from 5 to 8 pm. The two-man exhibition runs through September 2 and features two painters with different styles but a commonality in depicting scenes which evoke a strong sense of place.
