CHUCK PROPHET BRINGS ORIGINAL ROOTS-ROCK to HELSINKI
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Chuck Prophet, one of contemporary rock’s greatest songwriters, brings his group, the Mission Express, to Club Helsinki Hudson on Saturday, August 10, at 9pm. Noir-rockabilly artist Sarah Borges will open the show. Both performers are favorites of Helsinki audiences, and are performing during the city’s all-encompassing Hudson Music Festival.
BARD SUMMERSCAPE FESTIVAL to EXPLORE MUSIC of STRAVINSKY and HIS CONTEMPORARIES
(ANNANDALE-on-HUDSON, N.Y.) – Eleven concert programs over the two mid-August weekends, complemented by pre-concert lectures, panel discussions, and expert commentary, make up the world-renowned Bard Music Festival’s examination of Igor Stravinsky (1882–1971), arguably the most important composer of the 20th century. The eleven concerts filling the last two weekends of Bard SummerScape 2013 with a compelling and enlightening investigation of “Stravinsky and His World” offer an immersion in the worlds Stravinsky straddled, contextualizing him within the musically distinct milieus – all cultural melting pots – that he inhabited.

HUDSON to GET 3-DAY MUSIC FESTIVAL
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – The streets, alleys, parks, galleries, nightclubs and restaurants of Hudson will be pouring forth with music this weekend when the third annual Hudson Music Festival, featuring free performances throughout the city, takes place from Friday, August 9, through Sunday, August 11, 2013. The festival will showcase artists from around the region and beyond, representing all styles of music including R&B, jazz, blues, folk, and world-beat.
SHEILA JORDAN HEADLINES JAZZ WORKSHOP PERFORMANCE
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Legendary jazz vocalist Sheila Jordan headlines the Hudson Jazzworks’ 7th annual Hudson Jazz Workshop Performance featuring Armen Donelian, Marc Mommaas, and participants in the workshop, on Sunday, August 11, 2013, at 3:30pm, at the Hudson Opera House. There will also be a free “Meet the Artists” symposium before the performance.
HIGH PEAKS FESTIVAL SHOWCASES RUSSIAN and SCANDINAVIAN COMPOSERS
(HUNTER, N.Y.) – Celebrating “White Nights” of the Russian tradition, two charismatic international performers — pianist Vassily Primakov and cellist Yehuda Hanani — join forces to present a program of Russian masters Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, and Tchaikovsky, in the opening concert of the Catskill High Peaks Festival, a collaboration between Close Encounters With Music and the Catskill Mountain Foundation, at the Doctorow Center for the Arts on Sunday, August 11 at 2pm.
