(HUDSON, N.Y.) – The Voodoo Orchestra North, led by legendary jazz drummer, improviser and composer Bobby Previte – a recent transplant to Hudson – and featuring many great upstate New York musicians will kick off a regular series of performances devoted to exploring the music of Miles Davis’s eternal electric jazz-funk masterpiece, “Bitches Brew,” at Club Helsinki Hudson on Monday, August 19, at 8pm.

(NEW LEBANON, N.Y.) – Pianists Vassily Primakov and Natalia Lavrova will perform works by Chopin and Rachmaninov in the Tannery on the grounds of the Darrow School as part of the Tannery Pond Concerts chamber music series on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at 8pm.  The program features Primakov playing a selection of Chopin, followed by the duo playing Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances, Op. 45 Suite No. 2, Op. 17.

There will be a talk by several of the artists in the show preceding the reception from 5 to 6pm. (HUNTER, N.Y.) – Season of the Midnight Sun, the second concert of the Catskill High Peaks Festival, highlights a range of Russian and Nordic composers, including Edvard Grieg (Norway’s national composer), Igor Stravinsky, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky, on Sunday, August 18 at 2 p.m. at the Orpheum Performing Arts Center.
