(HUDSON, N.Y.) – BasilicaSoundScape, a waterfront arts and performance festival located inside Basilica Hudson, a reclaimed 19th-century factory in Hudson, takes place Friday, September 13, and Saturday, September 14, 2013, and boasts appearances and installations by the likes of Richard Hell, Matthew Barney and Teengirl Fantasy.

Organized by Basilica Hudson with Pitchfork editor Brandon Stosuy and Brian DeRan (Gleam House, Leg UP!), BasilicaSoundScape is a carefully curated weekend featuring a wide range of music, visual art, and literature. It aims for specific connections and overlaps instead of festival-style overload.

On Friday, September 13, Stosuy’s Show No Mercy will present a showcase featuring Julianna Barwick, Pig Destroyer, Evian Christ, and Pharmakon, with readings from Richard Hell and Peter Sotos. For the Show No Mercy event, visual artist Lionel Maunz will construct a large sculpture (cast concrete, pewter, iron, sulfur, and semen) in the main performance area, which will stay up all weekend. It will coincide with a large-scale sound piece produced collaboratively by Stosuy, artist Matthew Barney, and composer Jonathan Bepler.

On Saturday, September 14, a lineup curated by Gleam House and Leg UP! will feature DIIV, Cass McCombs, No Joy, Pure X, Teengirl Fantasy, Malang Djobateh, and artist Genevieve White. The show combines the old and the new, starting with one of the oldest African string instruments, the Kora (presumed to originate in the 16th century), and ending with artists using leading technology in modern instrumentation. There will be short performances from White, known for her site-specific physical endurance pieces, between sets.

After-parties will take place at Half Moon Hudson. Friday’s party will feature DJ sets by Robin Carolan (Tri-Angle Records) and T. Cole Rachel (Rainbow in the Dark) while Saturday’s will feature DJ Brian Degraw (of Gang Gang Dance).

Basilica Hudson is an artist-owned venue run by creative directors Melissa Auf der Maur (formerly of Hole and Smashing Pumpkins) and filmmaker Tony Stone.
