(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Nationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Meg Hutchinson, a Berkshire native who came of age creatively at the original Club Helsinki in Great Barrington, Mass., brings her new body of work as heard on her terrific new album, “Beyond That” (Red House Records), to Club Helsinki Hudson on Friday November 1, at 9pm.

Long a favorite of Helsinki audiences – who remember her as a shy, aspiring and talented singer-songwriter who worked on a local organic farm and who have enjoyed watching her grow artistically while gaining renown, first on the competitive Boston folk music scene – Hutchinson has drawn comparisons to Shawn Colvin, David Gray and Mary Chapin Carpenter on her way to carving out a distinguished niche as an artist and poet in her own right. She has won awards at folk festivals including Kerrville, Rocky Mountain, Telluride, Merlefest, and Falcon Ridge; has been featured on NPR, XM/Sirius Radio, and the syndicated music show Mountain Stage; and has collaborated with fellow new-folk singer-songwriters including Antje Duvekot, Anne Heaton, and Natalia Zukerman.

The guitar-playing Hutchinson’s new songs reflect a period of introspection that saw her take up yoga and meditation and reacquaint herself with the piano. She says the songs “are about coming home, about transforming desire, about how human love can open the heart for some greater purpose.”
