Miles Davis Tributes and Downtown Supergroup Top Helsinki Jazz Offerings for Fall

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Steadfast in its commitment to bringing world-class jazz performances to the region, Club Helsinki Hudson is featuring a series of jazz concerts paying tribute to jazz legend Miles Davis this fall, as well as a concert bringing together a quartet of jazz superstars playing renditions of top pop hits of the rock era.

Omaha Diner, a jazz supergroup featuring guitarist Charlie Hunter, trumpeter Steven Bernstein, saxophonist Skerik and drummer Bobby Previte, will tackle the top of the pop charts, playing jazz versions of number-one pop hits from the 1950s to today, on Thursday, November 7, at 8pm. Omaha Diner draws from a wealth of familiar material by artists and groups including Beyoncé, the Rolling Stones, the O’Jays, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Adele, the Beatles, U2, the Lovin’ Spoonful, Elton John, the Monkees, Aretha Franklin, and Fleetwood Mac.

Cuban pianist Omar Sosa brings his Afri-Lectric Sextet, performing a tribute to Miles Davis’s landmark “Kind of Blue” album – the bestselling jazz album of all time — to Club Helsinki Hudson on Thursday, November 14, at 8pm. Inspired by various musical elements and motifs from “Kind Of Blue,” Sosa – known for his singular blend of Latin jazz and African diaspora music – wrote a suite of music honoring the spirit of freedom in Davis’ seminal work.

Additionally, the Voodoo Orchestra North, led by legendary jazz drummer, improviser and composer Bobby Previte – a recent transplant to Hudson – and featuring many great upstate New York musicians, continues its residency at Helsinki Hudson devoted to exploring the music of Miles Davis’s eternal electric jazz-funk masterpiece, “Bitches Brew.” Upcoming Voodoo Orchestra North dates include Monday, November 18, at 8pm.
