MAJOR IZHAR PATKIN EXHIBITION GETS U.S. PREMIERE at MASS MoCA
(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – Izhar Patkin: The Wandering Veil — the long-awaited, much-promised survey of works by the Israeli-born, New York-based artist Izhar Patkin – finally opens in MASS MoCA‘s signature Building 5 gallery on Saturday, December 7, 2013. The exhibition focuses on the internationally renowned artist’s last decade and includes essential works from throughout Patkin’s 30-year career. The centerpiece of the exhibition is Veiled Threats (1999-2010), a cycle of spectacular new mural-size paintings on gossamer tulle, inspired by the words of the late Kashmiri-American poet Agha Shahid Ali, and which have never before been shown in the United States.
(LENOX, Mass.) – The 200th anniversary of the publication of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice will be celebrated in the one-time home of one of her biggest fans, Edith Wharton, when actor-comedian-author Alison Larkin presents excerpts of her entertaining new audio recording of Pride and Prejudice at The Mount on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 4pm. The event includes a Regency tea toasting Austen on her birthday.

GALLERY SHOW FEATURES WORKS by 20 REGIONAL ARTISTS
(SOUTH LEE, Mass.) – Inspiration of The Spirit, a group exhibition featuring works by twenty regional artists at the St. Francis Gallery, opens with a reception on Saturday, December 7, 2013, from 3 to 6pm. The music kicks off Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 9pm, with Simi Stone’s patented style of original “Mountain Motown,” performed by the singer/violinist/guitarist with an all-star backup group of veteran musicians who have collectively worked with David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Gang of Four, the B-52s, Ani DiFranco and Indigo Girls, among many others. WORK-in-PROGRESS LACHIUSA MUSICAL about PRESIDENTIAL DAUGHTERS at MASS MoCA
(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – There will be a work-in-progress public showing of First Daughter Suite, a new work by Tony Award-nominated composer and lyricist Michael John LaChiusa, at MASS MoCA on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 8pm. The performance is the culmination of a residency by the renowned Sundance Institute Theatre Program’s fall musical and ensemble Theatre Lab that offers workshop support to playwrights, directors, composers, and librettists.
JAY MESSER QUINTET to PLAY BABA LOUIE’S BACKROOM
(PITTSFIELD, Mass.) – The Jay Messer Quintet will bring its jazz stylings to Baba Louie’s Backroom on Friday, December 6, 2013, at 8pm, in a concert produced by Berkshires Jazz in conjunction with downtown Pittsfield’s First Fridays Artswalks, in which two dozen venues will be featuring paintings and other hanging art from local and regional artists.
