R.O. BLECHMAN RETROSPECTIVE at HUDSON OPERA HOUSE
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – A retrospective exhibition showcasing the work of illustrator, editorial cartoonist, animator, and graphic novelist R.O. Blechman opens at the Hudson Opera House on Saturday, March 29, 2014, with an artist’s reception at 5pm, and remains on view through May 11, 2014. Blechman’s iconic, witty spot illustrations and editorial cartoons have been widely seen in the New York Times, the Nation, Harpers Bazaar, Esquire, Punch, and the Huffington Post, and over a dozen magazine covers for the New Yorker. He remains best known for his trademark squiggly line, giving a nervous energy, charm, and understated humor to his art.
BINDLESTIFF CIRKUS CONCLUDES WINTER RESIDENCY at HELSINKI HUDSON
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Hudson’s own Bindlestiff Family Cirkus concludes its three-month winter residency hosting a monthly cabaret, featuring a variety of circus, theater, comedy and musical entertainers, at Club Helsinki Hudson this weekend with two shows – Saturday, March 29, at 9pm; and a matinee show on Sunday, March 30, at 3pm, geared to the whole family. Audience members attending in costume will receive a discounted admission.
DUO to PERFORM CONTEMPORARY ART SONGS at OPERA HOUSE
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Works by modern and contemporary composers will be performed in Pairings: Art Songs and Cabaret, featuring vocalist Gilda Lyons and composer-pianist Daron Hagen, at the Hudson Opera House on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 7pm. The program will include the premiere of a new work commissioned from David Macbride by the Phoenix Concerts, as well as works by Marc Blitzstein, Jacques Brel, Chabuca Granda, Jennifer Higdon, Ned Rorem, Stephen Sondheim, Ken Steen, Kurt Weill, and Judith Weir, as well as works by the performers themselves.
NEW SCULPTURES and ETCHINGS by STEPHEN REYNOLDS at JOHN DAVIS GALLERY
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – A solo exhibition of sculpture and etchings by Stephen Reynolds at John Davis Gallery (362½ Warren Street) opens on Thursday, March 27, 2014, and runs through April 20. There will be a reception for the artist on Saturday, March 29, at 6 p.m.
CLASSICAL INDIAN VIRTUOSO to PERFORM at TSL
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Indian classical sitarist Ustad Shafaat Khan, who also plays surbahar and table, will perform at Time and Space Limited on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at 2pm, followed by an authentic Indian meal.
