CHOREOGRAPHER DAVID NEUMANN to DANCE SOLOS at MASS MOCA

(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – Interdisciplinary choreographer David Neumann will present an evening of solos in the Hunter Center at MASS MoCA on Saturday, April 26, at 8pm. A co-presentation by Jacob’s Pillow Dance and MASS MoCA, the retrospective evening spans Neumann’s career from his first choreographic endeavor, DOSE, to his current work-in-progress, I Understand Everything Better. The program, also including tough the tough (redux) (2008) and You Are In Control (2009), captures Neumann’s exploration of lines between theatre and dance, audience and performer, movement and voice, mundane and theatrical.

GYPSY and HUNGARIAN-FLAVORED WORKS by LISZT, BRAHMS, and BARTÓK at the MAHAIWE

(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – Works by Liszt, Brahms, and Bartók will be featured in MAGYAR!, a program of Hungarian- and Gypsy-influenced music, at the Mahaiwe on Sunday, April 27, at 3pm, as part of the Close Encounters With Music series of chamber concerts. Musicians include Roma performer Cosmo Gorcsi, on cimbalom – a hammered dulcimer that is the national folk instrument of Hungary – and the concert will also include traditional folk music.

(WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.) – The Berkshire Symphony will feature student soloists from Williams College in a concert of works by Enescu, Bernstein, Rachmaninoff and Dvorák in Chapin Hall at Williams College on Friday, April 25, at 8pm. There is a pre-concert talk with guest conductor Andrew Massey and student soloists at 7:15 p.m. in Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall, adjacent to the main venue. Both of these events are free and open to the public.

VERDI’S REQUIEM to GET FULL ORCHESTRATION at BARD COLLEGE

(ANNANDALE-on-HUDSON, N.Y.) – Giuseppe Verdi’s monumental work Messa da Requiem will get the complete treatment it deserves when it is performed by a full orchestra and a chorus of more than 100 in the Fisher Center at Bard College on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26, at 8pm. The program is conducted by Leon Botstein, music director, with James Bagwell, chorus master, and features members of the American Symphony Orchestra, Bard College Conservatory Orchestra, Longy Conservatory Orchestra and the Longy Chorale, Bard College Chamber Singers, and Bard Festival Chorale, with Jennifer Check, soprano; Sara Murphy, mezzo-soprano; Brian Cheney, tenor; and Wayne Tigges, baritone.

Joining Sosa in the quartet are drummer Ernesto Simpson, bassist Childo Tomas, and saxophonist Leandro Saint-Hill, who also plays flute.
