Sharon Van Etten to Preview New Folk-Rock Songs at Helsinki Hudson

Sharon Van Etten 2(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Brooklyn-based indie folk-rock singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten will preview new songs from her upcoming recording, “Are We There,” when she performs at Club Helsinki Hudson on Friday, May 9, 2014, at 9pm. Van Etten is an integral part of the new Brooklyn indie scene, having collaborated, performed or recorded with members of the National, the Antlers, Beirut and the Walkmen, among others.

Hailed for the intense honesty and vulnerability of her songs and her alluring vocals, Van Etten’s music is noted for its distinctive minimalism and timeless feel. She is a multi-instrumentalist who juggles duties on guitar, piano, percussion, harmonium, and omnichord, and she makes extensive use of vocal harmonies, in part because she claims to hear more than one melody simultaneously in her writing process. The end result can at times be as organic and rootsy as a front-porch picking session, or as lush and orchestral as a symphony.

“Are We There,” Van Etten’s fourth album, will be officially released in late May. Van Etten is likely to appeal to fans of Patti Smith, Emmylou Harris, Jefferson Airplane and the National. This program is part of Helsinki Hudson’s commitment to presenting emerging and rising artists.
