Blues-Soul Duo Fredericks Brown to Play MASS MoCA

fredericks-brown-v(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – The blues-soul duo Fredericks Brown, fronted by singer-songwriter Deva Mahal – daughter of the legendary blues musician Taj Mahal – and New Zealand-born songwriter/keyboard player Stephanie Brown, performs at MASS MoCA on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at 8pm. The duo’s music draws on their rich cultural and musical heritage in songs steeped in its African-American roots music with a Pacific Island flair.

Fredericks Brown has shared stages with Etta James, The Roots, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Patti Smith, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Common, and Kanye West. About finding inspiration for Fredericks Brown’s music, Brown says, “You never know where you’re gonna get the fuel from, and there is so much beautiful music out there. I think you can mine the material, learn from what you like, and then combine it with your own voice to make your statement.”
