Tanglewood Opens Gates to Jazz, Garrison Keillor

(LENOX, Mass.) – The Kenny Barron Trio, led by the Grammy Award-nominated pianist Kenny Barron, who has been active for nearly 50 years and has been featured on hundreds of recordings, opens the 2014 pre-season at Tanglewood in Ozawa Hall on Friday, June 27, 2014, at 8pm, followed by the annual live broadcast of American Public Media’s “A Prairie Home Companion” radio variety show featuring Garrison Keillor on Saturday, June 28, at 5:45 pm.

Kenny Barron has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards and the American Jazz Hall of Fame, and has performed and recorded with many of the greatest names in jazz, including Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Stan Getz, Freddie Hubbard, and Elvin Jones. Barron will be accompanied at Tanglewood by Kiyoshi Kitagawa and Johnathan Blake.

Garrison-Keillor-345x290Keillor’s guests on Saturday will include bluesman Keb’ Mo’, singing trio The Wailin’ Jennys, pianist Rob Fisher, and Bensonhurst harmonizers The DiGiallonardo Sisters. “A Prairie Home Companion” was first broadcast live from the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s summer home in 1998.
