Artisan’s Market Returns to Hudson Riverfront This Weekend

HRE.MarketView.Summer2013(HUDSON, N.Y.)  – The Hudson River Exchange (HRE) will host its second annual Summer Artisan’s Market at the Hudson Riverfront Park on Saturday, June 28, 10am-6pm, and Sunday, June 29, 2014, from 11am-4pm. The Hudson River Exchange Summer Market is a juried, independent outdoor market showcasing over 80 regional makers and collectors, food, and community organizations.

This summer’s market is the third of Hudson River Exchange’s highly successful seasonal fairs. Each began with an open call for applicants with the mission to draw upon the rich mercantile history of Hudson. By showcasing more than 80 contemporary regional makers, designers, collectors, food trucks, and community organizations, HRE brings together vendors and consumers of high quality goods to partake in a weekend of exchange.

Among the makers and vendors are Jori Jayne Emde, who’s been making tinctures, mustards and soap for herself and friends and then introduced her packaged Lady Jayne’s Alchemy products to the public at last year’s event. Another new venture, The Hudson Standard, purveyors of handcrafted bitters and shrubs, will showcase their newest concoctions. Also returning to the market are Carol Neiley and her beloved online lifestyle shop, Basic French, and popular artisanal pottery crafted by Caroline Wallner’s Tivoli Tile Works.

grain.orangelightPop-up shops like Albany’s Fort Orange General Store, with a selection of beautiful handmade, high-quality goods and gifts, and Troy Cloth and Paper, with its own line of greeting cards, art prints, and clothing designs created by Taylor Gillis & Ben Karis-Nix, will bring their new offerings to Hudson. Local makers will be joined by those traveling to the area, including Brooklyn’s Eleanor’s Stylish Bicycle Accessories and NYC’s Mirame Swimwear, which is committed to manufacturing 100% of their line in the USA.

An assortment of local food vendors include Cheryl Paff’s Black Eyed Suzie’s, Hudson favorite Truck Pizza, and Pippy’s Hot Dogs, bringing their hot pink truck from Saugerties, will all be river side for the two-day event.

The market includes a live music program featuring cult-indie favorite and HRE resident DJ Chocolate Genius, aka Marc Anthony Thompson, rockabilly/honkytonk faves Chops & Sauerkraut, and Liv Carrow, who will be reading tarot cards and selling vintage as well as performing in this year’s festivities. In addition, children’s crafts and activities will be provided by Friends of the Hudson Area Library, Hudson’s learning center Kite’s Nest, and Hudson Sloop Club.

Hudson StandardThis season’s sponsors include Chronogram, Columbia Tent, Friends of the Hudson Area Library, Hudson Wellness Collective, Sorted Creative, and Wunderbar.

The Hudson River Exchange was born out of a series of casual conversations between a small group of like-minded makers to create a space that could showcase the art, food, music, and community of the vibrant and growing city of Hudson, N.Y. Inspired by The Hudson River and its long history of bringing people, ideas, and commerce together, Hudson River Exchange began with its first event in the summer of 2013, and has now joined forces with Basilica Hudson’s instant hit fall market Basilica Farm + Flea.
