(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Hudson’s own Stephin Merritt, best known as frontman of his indie-pop group, The Magnetic Fields, will perform a solo concert at Club Helsinki Hudson on Friday, July 25, at 9pm.

With the Magnetic Fields, in his other ensembles, and in his solo work, singer-songwriter Stephin Merritt is known for his dark, clever and at times subtly ironic lyrics about love and loss, as well as for his impossibly deep bass vocals. If classic songwriters of the mid-20th century like Cole Porter and Jerome Kern were born fifty years later, they may well have produced work similar to Merritt’s trademark songs such as “Book of Love” and “Andrew in Drag.”

In addition to his work in pop music, multi-instrumentalist Merritt (guitar, keyboards, ukulele) has written for stage (“Coraline”), screen (“20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”) and commercials (“I’m in a Lonely Way” for Volvo).

For reservations in The Restaurant or in the club call 518.828.4800.
