There will be an opening reception on Saturday, March 21, 2015, from 3 to 5pm. Veiled Actions, featuring works by Brooklyn painter George Hildrew, will occupy the second storey pop-up space at the Curatorium, while the installation Everyday Places (on the move), from North Carolina-based photographer Cathryn Griffin, will occupy the first floor space.

(WOODSTOCK, N.Y.) – Chris Stein, a cofounder of New Wave group Blondie as well as a photographer, novelists Jane Smiley and Elisa Albert, poet and novelist Stephen Dobyns, memoirist and novelist Ann Hood, biographers Amanda Vaill, Sheila Weller, and James Grissom, authors Mark Matousek and Clark Strand, and memoirists Abigail Thomas, Christina Haag, Jillian Lauren, festival executive director Martha Frankel, and Suzan Saxman, will all take part in the sixth annual Woodstock Writers Festival, taking place from Thursday, March 19, through Sunday, March 22. Events are at the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts unless otherwise noted.

NILE PROJECT OPENS SPRING SEASON at SANCTUARY for INDEPENDENT MEDIA

(TROY, N.Y.) – The Nile Project – a 12-piece ensemble of musicians from throughout the Nile River basin in Africa – will be performing at the Sanctuary for Independent Media (3361 6th Avenue) on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at 7pm. The musicians – coming variously from Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda – bring with them wildly different traditions, instruments, and musical frameworks but are united in their experience on relying on the Nile River for life, which is felt in the music.

(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – Russian pianist Vassily Primakov joins distinguished cellist Yehuda Hanani in a program of works by Sergei Rachmaninoff at the Mahaiwe on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at 6pm, as part of the Close Encounters with Music series. Among the works they will perform are the Sonata for Piano and Cello, the early Prelude and Orientale, and Variations on a Theme of Corelli.
