(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – Comedian Chris Gethard, familiar to audiences from appearances on The Office, Parks and Recreation, Broad City, and Louie, as well as his eponymous gonzo cable access program – brings his blend of slightly nerdy, slightly angry, devilishly cerebral standup to Club B-10 at MASS MoCA on Saturday, January 30, at 8pm. Gethard’s program is a ticketed event that caps MASS MoCA’s annual Free Day, which takes place from 11am to 7pm.

Gethard got his start studying improvisational acting with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, eventually teaching for the comedy collective. He is now best known for the Chris Gethard Show, a cable TV program featuring awkward viewer call-ins, animations, games, filmed performances, and Gethard’s trademark self-deprecating humor. At times chaotic, the unpredictable variety show has established a cult following of fans affectionately referred to as “Gethheads.”

The program has attracted a who’s who of comedy superstars including Amy Poehler, Zach Galifianakis, and Hannibal Buress. The Chris Gethard Show originally aired on New York City public-access and through a stream on Gethard’s website. However, after a meteoric rise in popularity, the show made its cable television debut on Fusion in May 2015.

What makes Gethard’s celebrity noteworthy is how accessible he is to fans. When he’s not running the Chris Gethard Show, the comedian is on the road frequently touring and interacting directly with his following, sometimes organizing comedy shows in his fans’ living rooms – a house concert for comedy. Gethard even walked across the country from Los Angeles to Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, relying solely on the goodwill and fast cars of his fans and strangers. The voyage is documented through a series of videos available on Gethard’s YouTube channel. His book, “A Bad Idea I’m About to Do,” is a collection of personal stories that was recently featured on This American Life.

Chris Gethard’s one-of-a-kind standup show rolls into MASS MoCA’s Club B10 on Saturday, January 30, at 8pm. Watch Gethard’s performance after exploring the museum’s galleries free of charge thanks to the annual Free Day extravaganza. At the show, a full bar serves Berkshire Brewing Company beers and Berkshire Mountain Distillery spirits. Tickets are $16 in advance, $10 for students, $22 day of, and $28 preferred. Tickets for all events are available through the MASS MoCA box office located on Marshall Street in North Adams, open 11am to 5pm every day except Tuesdays through spring 2016. Tickets can also be charged by phone by calling 413.662.2111×1 during box office hours or purchased online at MASS MoCA. All events are held rain or shine.

MASS MoCA’s annual Free Day takes place from 11am-7pm on Saturday, January 30, before Chris Gethard hits the stage. The museum welcomes new and old friends for a day of art-making and action bouncing off the bricks from doors open at 11am, ‘til late night.
