(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Deradoorian and Emily Ritz bring a double-bill of female indie-pop to Club Helsinki Hudson on Saturday, May 28, at 9pm. Angel Deradoorian is best known as a former member of Dirty Projectors. Emily Ritz, a former fixture on the Bay Area music scene, now calls Hudson home.

Listeners are already familiar with Angel Deradoorian’s distinctive voice. As the former bassist, keyboardist and vocalist for Dirty Projectors, her levitating vocals buoyed the Brooklyn-based group. She’s been a member of Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks, sang on Flying Lotus’ “Siren Song,” and has collaborated with Vampire Weekend, Matmos, the Roots, et al.

Now a mononymous solo artist based in Los Angeles, Deradoorian plays a unique blend of jazzy, psychedelic, electronic pop. Her first song collection, 2009’s “Mind Raft,” elicited praise from Pitchfork for being “passionate and lovingly crafted.” The Fader hailed her “zen weed energy” and “moody dervish spirals.” Last year’s full-length debut, “The Expanding Flower Planet,” has drawn apt comparisons to Bjork and Kate Bush.

Hudson’s own Emily Ritz was formerly one-half of the duo Yesway. For 10 years, she was a fixture on the Bay Area music scene. The native New Yorker left for California right after high school to study painting and filmmaking at California College of the Arts. Embraced by the music community in San Francisco, Emily found her place there as a performer. She performed in such bands as Honeycomb and DRMS, as a duo with Kacey Johansing in Yesway. Since her recent move to Hudson, Emily has been performing under her own name for the first time.

With less odd-metered fingerpicking and more rhythmic strumming, Emily’s songs are moving in a new direction, though her sound is still very much influenced by her time in California. With a heavy delay on her electric guitar and dreamy vocals, concertgoers can expect a lush and powerful live performance.
