Berkshire Bach Kicks off Season with Recital for Flute and Harpsichord

(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – Berkshire Bach Society kicks off its 2011-2012 season with Venus Flytrap, a program dedicated to lyrical and botanical properties of music via the collaboration of flute and harpsichord, on Saturday, October 22, at 8 pm at the First Congregational Church in Great Barrington. Performers include Carol Wincenc, flute; Kenneth Cooper, harpsichord; and Victoria Bond, composer-narrator.

The program includes Platti’s Sonata in G major for flute and harpsichord Op. 3 No. 6; Bach’s Sonata in B minor for Flute and Harpsichord Obbligato, BWV 1030; Schubert’s Flute and Piano Sonata in A minor (originally for Arpeggione); Peculiar Plants, a suite of harpsichord solos composed for and dedicated to Kenneth Cooper by Victoria Bond, with original lyrics composed by the comedy team of Cooper & Bond and read by Ms. Bond; Flute Solos to include Debussy (Syrinx) and Joan Tower (Valentine Trills); and Romania!, composed for Carol Wincenc and Kenneth Cooper by conductor, composer and pianist Daniel Paget and based on traditional Romanian Folk Tunes.
