New-Folk Supergroup Red Horse aka Gorka, Gilkyson and Kaplansky to Perform at Eighth Step

Red Horse (l-r) Lucy Kaplansky, John Gorka, Eliza Gilkyson

(SCHENECTADY, N.Y.) – Red Horse, the new-folk supergroup featuring singer-songwriters John Gorka, Eliza Gilkyson, and Lucy Kaplansky, will appear in concert at the Eighth Step at Proctors (GE Theatre) on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at 7:30 p.m.

Together these three veteran songwriters team up to cover each other’s songs and breathe new life into old favorites, awash in gorgeous harmonies and simple acoustic production. Although they have been friends for years and recorded on each other’s albums, Red Horse is the first truly collaborative effort by Kaplansky, Gilkyson and Gorka, inspired by shows they did during Red House Records’ 25th Anniversary Tour.

“It was a project conceived, developed and released with a sense of play,” John Gorka says. “Who’d have known solitary types could get along?”

Gilkyson agrees. “If I had to use only one word to sum up this project I would use the word ‘harmony’– not just in terms of the vocals but also in the way we relate to each other,” she says. “We’re friends, we love each other’s work and we love to sing together.”

Kaplansky adds, “Eliza and John are two of my very favorite artists and people, so it’s been amazing to hear my songs sung by these great singers and to have the chance to sing lead on their beautiful songs.”
