Electro-Pop Group Railbird Headlines Club Helsinki on Friday

Railbird

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – From Saratoga by way of the mean streets of Bushwick in Brooklyn, N.Y., Railbird brings its alluring, groove-driven melodic chamber pop to Club Helsinki on Friday, January 6, at 9 p.m. Railbird is the musical project of Sarah K. Pedinotti (S.K.P.), a songwriter and bandleader who mixes pop forms and experimental textures with evocative lyrics.

Pedinotti sings like an angel with an edge – think Bjork crossed with Ani DiFranco – while the musicians of Railbird surround her vocals in a wash of chamber pop. The song “Monster” evokes bodies of water, shimmering ripples in a pond, icy glaciers, or the slow-moving planet of Lars Von Trier’s Melancholia.

Deep bass grooves underpin Pedinotti’s synth-driven melodies, propelled by tectonic drumbeats and surrounded by swirls of guitar. In addition to being the group’s songwriter and lead vocalist, Pedinotti is responsible for the electronics that give Railbird its unique flavor.

Last March, Railbird toured to and from SXSW supporting its debut self-released album, No One. Recorded mostly in Queens and partly in upstate New York, No One is a conceptual album that took a year and a half to complete. The group’s seamless blend of psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll and sharply textured, cerebral indie pop makes an evening with Railbird seem like Soft Machine collided in slow motion with the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s secret tracks and commanded you to dance.
