(PITTSFIELD, Mass.) — Guido’s Fresh Marketplace has acquired Berger’s Specialty Foods, the Pittsfield-based purveyor of delicatessen, bakery, prepared foods and grocery items that operated out of the Pittsfield Guido’s location for the past 27 years under the ownership of Christine and John Berger. Berger’s is the last remaining original tenant operating under the Guido’s Fresh Marketplace roof.

All Berger’s Specialty Foods employees have been offered their current positions as employees of Guido’s Fresh Marketplace. Says Guido’s co-owner Matthew Masiero, “We extend a warm welcome to them, and look forward to their valuable input as new members of Guido’s outstanding staff, contributing their diverse talents to our company.”

Co-owner Christopher Masiero notes, “We look forward to building upon the solid business that John and Christine Berger have operated with great success within our Pittsfield store. Under our ownership, we will continue to bring to Guido’s customers their favorite products and services that have been developed over the years by John, Christine and their dedicated staff. We look forward to expanding the current offerings in the specialty foods department.”

Founded in 1979 by brothers Christopher and Matthew Masiero, Guido’s Fresh Marketplace is a family-owned, independent grocery store with locations in Pittsfield and Great Barrington, Mass. Four additional locally owned businesses also operate within Guido’s: Bella Flora, Mazzeo’s Meat and Seafood, The Chef’s Shop, and The Marketplace Specialty Foods in Great Barrington.
