(LENOX, Mass.) – Fjords, forests and fairy tales will be conjured up in Nordic Lights: Grieg Revival, an evening of music and readings at Tanglewood’s Ozawa Hall — including works by Edvard Grieg and Henrik Ibsen, featuring special guest narrator Tina Packer, founder and former artistic director of Shakespeare & Company — on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 6 pm, the final Close Encounters with Music concert of the 2012–2013 season.

(NEW LEBANON, N.Y.) – Cellist Sebastian Bäverstam and pianist Yannick Rafalimanana will perform works by Bach, Beethoven and Brahms in the Tannery at Darrow School on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 8pm, as part of the Concerts at Tannery Pond chamber music series. Both young musicians have already garnered critical acclaims and awards. They first joined up as a duo for Tannery Pond Concerts for the 2012 benefit, when they played the Kodaly Sonata for Solo Cello and the Sonata in A major by César Franck.

MILLER PLAYS CALLAS in ‘MASTER CLASS’ at SHAKESPEARE & CO.

(LENOX, Mass.) – Adding to her body of work portraying iconic women, including Golda Meir, Martha Mitchell, and the title character in Charles Busch’s ‘Tale of the Allergist’s Wife,’” Eliot Norton Award-winning actress Annette Miller tackles the role of operatic diva Maria Callas in Terrance McNally’s Master Class, officially kicking off Shakespeare & Company’s 36th season and running through August 18. Staged in the Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre, the production is directed by Daniel Gidron and also stars Deborah Grausman.

NORMAN ROCKWELL MUSEUM PAYS TRIBUTE to WALT DISNEY

(STOCKBRIDGE, Mass.) – This summer Norman Rockwell Museum pays tribute to Walt Disney, another American icon of the 20th century, with a special exhibition celebrating the 75th anniversary of the acclaimed visual storyteller’s first feature-length animated film. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: The Creation of a Classic will be on view at the museum from Saturday, June 8, 2013, through October 27, 2013. The exhibition celebrates Walt Disney’s vision and the artistry of his dedicated staff, illustrating how they shaped and defined an entirely new American art form through their creation of this groundbreaking film. There will be a gala opening, “An Enchanting Evening with Snow White Model Marge Champion,” on Saturday, June 8, from 6:30 to 11 p.m. The members opening takes place on Sunday, June 9, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Over the RhineOVER THE RHINE to PERFORM at HELSINKI HUDSON

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Ohio-based folk-Americana group Over the Rhine performs at Club Helsinki Hudson on Friday, June 7, 2013, at 9pm. Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist are the core of the moody and wistful Over the Rhine, named after the Cincinnati neighborhood from which they hail. Their latest release, The Long Surrender, produced by Grammy Award-winner Joe Henry and containing a duet with Lucinda Williams on “Undamned,” was named one of the year’s Top 50 Best Records by Paste Magazine. The songs on the album were variously inspired by Van Morrison, Charles Bukowski, Buddy Holly, old gospel hymns, the Great American Songbook, and the Civil War.

TREAT WILLIAMS and TONY SHALHOUB STAR in BERKSHIRE PLAYWRIGHTS LAB GALA
(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – Berkshire Playwrights Lab kicks off its sixth season with a multimedia Gala Celebration on Friday, June 7, 2013, at 7:30pm at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center.  The gala cast will include actors Treat Williams and Tony Shalhoub (who was just nominated for a Tony Award for his Broadway performance in Golden Boy). The evening will feature new one-act plays written exclusively for BPL by Joe Cacaci, Richard Dresser, Jim Frangione, and Mark Malone, as well as a scene from Anna Ziegler’s Life Science, which BPL will present in a full workshop production later in June.

BLOCKBUSTER HOMER SHOW OPENS at THE CLARK
(WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.) – The greatest collection of works by Winslow Homer assembled by one person since the artist’s death — and one of the leading collections of any art museum in the United States — goes on display at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute on June 9, 2013, through September 8, 2013. Winslow Homer: Making Art, Making History showcases some sixty oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, and etchings, as well as approximately 120 rarely seen wood engravings. Drawing upon the resources of the Clark’s own holdings of nearly 250 works by Homer (dating from 1857 to 1904), the exhibition provides a variety of distinctive perspectives on this important American artist.
