Over the RhineOVER THE RHINE to PERFORM at HELSINKI HUDSON

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Ohio-based folk-Americana group Over the Rhine performs at Club Helsinki Hudson on Friday, June 7, 2013, at 9pm. Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist are the core of the moody and wistful Over the Rhine, named after the Cincinnati neighborhood from which they hail. Their latest release, The Long Surrender, produced by Grammy Award-winner Joe Henry and containing a duet with Lucinda Williams on “Undamned,” was named one of the year’s Top 50 Best Records by Paste Magazine. The songs on the album were variously inspired by Van Morrison, Charles Bukowski, Buddy Holly, old gospel hymns, the Great American Songbook, and the Civil War.

NEW SONG CYCLE BASED ON MILLAY POEMS DEBUTS IN HUDSON

(HUDSON, N.Y.) –  Beauty Intolerable, a collection of love songs composed by Sheila Silver based on the poetry of iconoclast and libertine Edna St. Vincent Millay and performed by a trio of operatic chanteuses, including soprano Laura Flanigan, with recitations by actress Tyne Daly, premieres at the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 6pm.  The event is a co-production of AOP (American Opera Projects), The Edna St. Vincent Millay Society, ClaverackLanding, and Manhattan’s Symphony Space. The event also marks the final production of the Hudson-based presenting organization, ClaverackLanding.

FREDERIC EDWIN CHURCH’S MAINE LANDSCAPES at OLANA

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – While Frederic Edwin Church is enshrined at his former home and studio, Olana, and best known as one of the leaders of the Hudson River School of painting, he did not only paint here, nor was his only subject the Hudson Valley, as can be seen in a new exhibition, Maine Sublime: Frederic Edwin Church’s Landscapes of Mount Desert and Mount Katahdin, which opens at Olana on Sunday, June 9, 2013. The exhibition explores the half-century during which famed American landscape painter Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900) traveled to and was inspired by the landscapes of Maine.

Sebastian BäverstamBACH, BEETHOVEN and BRAHMS DUETS at TANNERY POND

(NEW LEBANON, N.Y.) – Cellist Sebastian Bäverstam and pianist Yannick Rafalimanana will perform works by Bach, Beethoven and Brahms in the Tannery at Darrow School on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 8pm, as part of the Concerts at Tannery Pond chamber music series. Both young musicians have already garnered critical acclaims and awards. They first joined up as a duo for Tannery Pond Concerts for the 2012 benefit, when they played the Kodaly Sonata for Solo Cello and the Sonata in A major by César Franck.
