Film Festival Premieres at Basilica Hudson

BasilicaScope(HUDSON, N.Y.) – BasilicaScope, projected to be an annual film festival based at Basilica Hudson, premieres this weekend, Thursday, July 18, 2013, through Sunday, July 21, 2013. According to its founders, the festival  “celebrates films that explore the furthest extremes – from remote landscapes, unconventional perspectives, fanatic personalities, radical examinations of film’s materiality, to the blood and emotion that create it.”

Directors scheduled to attend to show and discuss their work include Jem Cohen, Denis Côté, Jacqueline Goss and Deborah Stratman.  Two films by Charlie Ahearn are also confirmed: the new documentary Jamel Shabazz – Street Photographer and, on its 30th anniversary, the classic, Wild Style.  Festival partner Artists Public Domain, will present a free, late-night screening of this seminal first hip-hop film.

The festival has been programmed by Mike Plante (Sundance Film Festival programmer and founder of Cinemad), Basilica Hudson’s creative directors Melissa Auf der Maur and Tony Stone, and film curator Aily Nash.
