(LENOX, Mass.) – The Cantilena Chamber Choir, the region’s premiere a cappella choir, is celebrating its 10th season this year with three concerts, featuring choral music by Benjamin Britten, Francis Poulenc, and polyphonic music from the Cathedral of St. Marks in Venice and the Biber Mass: Missa Christi resurgentis.
Opening the season, the choir will present an afternoon of music in celebration of Benjamin Britten’s centennial on Sunday, October 20, 2013. On Sunday, December 15, 2013, the choir will present a Christmas program that includes the choral music of Francis Poulenc in honor of the 50th anniversary of his death. The highlight of the spring season will be on May 4, with a return engagement of the Boston early music group Cambridge Concentus. This year’s concert features the polyphonic music from the Cathedral of St. Marks in Venice and the Biber Mass: Missa Christi resurgentis.
Leading the group – comprised of 24 singers who possess vocal training, good sight-reading skills, and considerable choral experience – is Andrea Goodman, the director of the Saratoga Choral Festival and the Northern Berkshire Chorale. Goodman has directed the New England Conservatory Women’s Choir, the Concord (Mass.) Chorus, the Berkshire Bach Society, Skidmore Choruses, the NYU Choral Arts Society, and has a Doctorate in Conducting from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music.
