(PITTSFIELD, Mass.) – Violinist Susanna Ogata, viola da gamba player Anne Legene, and harpsichordist Larry Wallach will perform Bach’s Violin Sonata No. 1 in B Minor on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 4pm, in the inaugural event of a new chamber music concert series at the Whitney Center for the Arts.
Susanna Ogata, one of Boston Handel and Haydn Society’s rising stars, will be the featured artist. The Boston Musical Intelligencer recently cited her for playing with “sensitivity and a fire.”
Anne Legene trained on the cello at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and on the viola da gamba at the Longy School in Cambridge, Mass. She is heard in concert throughout the Berkshires.
Harpsichordist Larry Wallach, a musicologist at Simon’s Rock College, is well known as a baroque music performer. As a composer his works have been heard in New York, Boston, Amherst, the Berkshires, and at Bard College.
The Whitney Center for the Arts was founded by Pittsfield native Lisa Whitney in 2012 to provide a platform for established and up-and-coming visual and performing artists to showcase their talent and promote arts and culture in Pittsfield. It is located in the historic Colt House at 42 Wendell Avenue.
A reception for the artists and attendees will be held following the concert. Admission is $30 per person at the door. Children 18 and under are free.
