(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – Vijay Seshadri, winner of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry, will read from his poetry as part of the fall Poetry & Fiction Reading Series at Simon’s Rock College on Thursday, September 4, 2014, at 6:30pm.

The Bard College at Simon’s Rock fall Poetry & Fiction Reading Series brings four award-winning authors to campus starting September 4, 2014. Renowned poets Vijay Seshadri and J.D. McClatchy and acclaimed fiction writers Francine Prose and Peter Brown will read from works in poetry, short stories and novels in the intimate Blodgett House living room

Peter Filkins, Simon’s Rock faculty in Language and Literature, organized The Poetry & Fiction Series to bring students and the extended community face to face with a rich array of writers and to help sustain a community interested in writing at its best. “To have the chance to hear their work and engage them in conversation is an opportunity not to be missed,” comments Filkins, “especially in the intimate setting of Blodgett House, which allows a real chance for the writers to meet with the audience firsthand.”

Thursday, September 4 at 6:30pm, Vijay Seshadri, winner of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry, will read from his poetry. The Brooklyn-based author of three collections of poetry, Wild Kingdom, The Long Meadow, and 3 Sections, has also published numerous essays in leading periodicals, been a Guggenheim Fellow, and teaches writing at Sarah Lawrence College.

September 18 at 6:30pm, Francine Prose will read from her new novel, Lovers at the Chameleon Club, Paris 1932. Prose has been the recipient of numerous awards, including a Guggenheim and the Edith Wharton Award for Literature, and has been a finalist for the National Book Award. Francine is a Visiting Professor of Literature at Bard College.

October 2 at 6:30pm, Editor of The Yale Review and the president of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, J.D. McClatchy, will read from Plundered Hearts: New and Selected Poems, which was published in 2014. McClatchy is the author of eight books of poetry, as well as several opera libretti and is a former Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets.

The fourth evening, October 9 at 6:30pm, will feature Peter Brown, winner of the Katherine Anne Porter Prize for Short Fiction for his 2010 volume A Bright Soothing Noise, The title refers to the sound that fire makes, promising not only warmth and light but also violence and destruction. Peter Brown has published stories in Harvard Review and Mississippi Review. He is the recipient of a 2006 Massachusetts Cultural Council grant and is a translator from French and Spanish.

These events will all be held in the elegant Blodgett House on the Simon’s Rock campus. All readings are free and open to the public.
