(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – Canadian acoustic folk-pop duo Dala will perform an intimate evening of holiday classics and original music in the Eleanor Furst Auditorium at the MCLA Church Street Center on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at 7:30pm.

This will be the third time the Juno Award nominees and winners of the 2010 Canadian Folk Music Award for Vocal Group of the Year will have performed as part of the MCLA Presents! series. The duo first presented in April 2011 at MCLA Gallery 51, then performed for MCLA audiences in December 2012, bringing their “sweetly nuanced melodies delivered with an unequivocal joy of two young women who simply love singing together,” according to Direct Current.

Dala is comprised of Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine. Frequently compared to artists such as the Indigo Girls and Emmylou Harris, and drawing upon influences like the Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Bob Dylan, Dala write songs that are both catchy and insightful, according to Michelle Daly, BCRC program coordinator.

“Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine’s lush vocal harmonies have an ethereal quality,” Daly said. “We couldn’t be more pleased to have Dala back on the MCLA Presents! stage. Their infectious joy while performing captivates and carries the audience on a journey from first-time listener to instant fan.”

For this performance, Dala will present a mix of their originally crafted songs, along with holiday classics. Original or holiday standard – Walther’s ethereal soprano voice blends seamlessly with Carabine’s velvety alto, creating the lush harmonies that have become their trademark.

Dala“There’s nothing pretentious about Dala’s music; it’s stripped down and laid bare. That’s not to say it is without polish – far from it. Sheila Carabine and Amanda Walther have worked hard to exploit every facet of their extraordinary musical blend, and it would be just as at home in a 1960s coffeehouse as it is now on the contemporary concert stage,” said Andrew Craig, host of CBC “Canada Live.”

Admission to this MCLA Presents! Performance is $10 general admission, $8 for MCLA Alumni, $5 for MCLA Faculty and Staff and free for MCLA students and MCLA Presents members.
