MIRO QUARTET to PLAY SCHUBERT and BEETHOVEN at TANNERY POND
(NEW LEBANON, N.Y.) – The Miro Quartet will perform a program featuring works by Schubert and Beethoven in the Tannery Pond Concert Series at the Darrow School on Saturday, August 1, at 8pm. The dynamic quartet, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, will be playing Schubert’s Quartet in G major, No. 15 and Beethoven’s Quartet in C-sharp minor, No. 14, Op. 131:2.
‘POPS’ PETERSON to DISCUSS ‘REINVENTING ROCKWELL’ at MUSEUM
(STOCKBRIDGE, Mass.) – Maurice “Pops” Peterson will discuss his “Reinventing Rockwell” series of artworks at Norman Rockwell Museum on Thursday, July 30, at 5:30pm. Recently honored at the Northeast Regional Conference on Fair Housing and Civil Rights, Peterson will detail how his work reimagined the art of Norman Rockwell to reflect the realities and diversity of today’s American scene. Peterson, who describes the talk as a “true story of ghosts and miracles, presented with nearly scores of illustrations,” will also discuss his artistic journey from graphic designer and writer to the world of fine art.
BANG ON a CAN MARATHON CONCLUDES FESTIVAL at MASS MoCA
(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – The 14th annual Bang on a Can Summer Marathon, a six-hour day-night boundary-busting festival finale featuring 50-plus musicians and composers from around the world, will bring to a close this summer’s Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival at MASS MoCA on Saturday, August 1, starting at 4pm and running at least until 10pm. Festival fellows, faculty, and the Bang on a Can All-Stars will perform excerpts from Philip Glass’ legendary “Einstein on the Beach,” songs by Meredith Monk, the forceful “Singing in the Dead of Night” by this year’s Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, Bang on a Can co-founder Julia Wolfe, and more.
JP HARRIS BRINGS HONKYTONK to HELSINKI HUDSON

JUDY COLLINS HEADLINES FALCON RIDGE FOLK FESTIVAL
(HILLSDALE, N.Y.) – Judy Collins, Garnet Rogers, Susan Werner, Nerissa and Katryna Nields, the Slambovian Circus of Dreams, June Rich, and the Duhks headline the 27th annual Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, taking place at Dodds Farm from Friday through Sunday, July 31 to August 2. The festival includes concerts and workshops, hours of dancing on the 7,000-sq.-ft. dance floor, a family stage, kids activities, an international food court, and an array of vendors. The dance tent starts with wake-up yoga and continues until 2am Friday and Saturday.
SCHEINFELD to DISCUSS BORSCHT BELT PHOTOS at YIDDISH BOOK CENTER
(AMHERST, Mass.) – Photographer Marisa Scheinfeld will give a talk about her exhibit Echoes from the Borscht Belt: Contemporary Photographs at the Yiddish Book Center on Sunday, August 2, at 2pm. The exhibit of large-scale photographs documenting the dramatic decline of the once-popular resort area is at the Yiddish Book Center’s Brechner Gallery through November 22. In her talk, Scheinfeld will discuss growing up in the shadow of the iconic Borscht Belt (so called because of its popularity with Jews from the New York region), which at its peak in the mid-20th century was home to hundreds of resorts, hotels and vacation bungalows, as well as clubs where top comedians and other performers regularly appeared.
