(HUDSON, N.Y.) – The Baseball Project, a rock ‘n’ roll supergroup featuring members of R.E.M., Dream Syndicate, Hindu Love Gods and Young Fresh Fellows, bring their growing body of songs about America’s national pastime to Club Helsinki Hudson on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at 8pm.

Formed in 2007 by Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows, The Minus 5, R.E.M.) and Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate, Steve Wynn and the Miracle 3, Gutterball), The Baseball Project began as a way for a couple of fans to pay musical tribute to our national pastime in songs about heroes like Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Satchel Paige, and Ted Williams as well as lesser known figures, including Lenny Dykstra, Dale Murphy, and Pascual Perez. The group now includes R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck and bassist Mike Mills, as well as drummer Linda Pitmon.

You don’t even have to be a baseball fan to appreciate the Baseball Project – with so much talent on hand, the group makes joyful, hook-laden rock music that anyone can enjoy. But fans will marvel at the stories the Baseball Project digs up from the history of the sport, whether it’s Mookie Wilson’s famous Word Series-winning grounder or the day Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Dock Ellis took the mound under the influence of psychedelic drugs and beaned every member of the Cincinnati Reds (“The Day Dock Went Hunting Heads”).
