Skiers and Riders Can Tune Up with Yoga

(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – Sruti Yoga Center will offer a series of classes for skiers, snowboarders, and winter outdoor enthusiasts to tune up their bodies, strengthen their legs, and get ready to hit the slopes starting on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at noon on December 8, 11, 15 and 18. Participants can come to individual classes ($12/class) or sign up for a series of four ($35/four classes).

The classes will be taught in Great Barrington by Jill Fleming, a private yoga instructor with a background in exercise physiology and Amy Webb, owner/founder of Sruti Yoga Center. Jill and Amy will be drawing on both their vast experience as yoga teachers and skiers; Jill has been a skier for 30 years, and Amy has been a skier since age 3, with a love for telemark and backcountry skiing since 1999.

“We’re looking forward to this playful class with people who want to get a head start on their time on the slopes.” says Amy Webb. “We’ll be working to strengthen our ankles, feet, legs, along with all sorts of yoga wisdom to conserve energy and create internal heat for those extra cold days when we still want to get out and play.”

Sruti Yoga Center, at 33 Railroad St., 2nd Floor, offers yoga for beginners, traditional Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa, Anusara-based Vinyasa flow, Kundalini, qigong, meditation, and pre- and post-natal classes. Workshops are also held in breathing techniques, Sanskrit, Ayurveda, Reiki, and Shamanic studies. Private sessions and consultations are available in yoga and energy therapies.
