Daedalus String Quartet to Perform at New Marlborough Meeting House

September 3, 2012

Daedalus Quartet (by Lisa-Marie Mazzucco)

(NEW MARLBOROUGH, Mass.) – The internationally acclaimed Daedalus Quartet performs music of Mendelssohn, Dvorak and George Perle on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at 4:30 p.m. at the Meeting House on the Village Green as part of the Music & More series.

The renowned string ensemble, praised by the New Yorker as “a fresh and vital young participant in what is a golden age of American string quartets,” performs Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 1 in E-flat Major; George Perle’s Molto Adagio and Dvorak’s String Quartet No. 14 in A-flat major.

The members of the Daedalus Quartet are Min-Young Kim and Matilda Kaul, violins; Jessica Thompson, viola; and Tom Kraines, cello.

The Daedalus Quartet has received plaudits from critics and listeners for the technical expertise and sheer gusto of its performances of the great quartet repertoire of the past and present. Musical America, in a 2011 review, described the quartet’s presentation of Perle’s Molto Adagio as “the most arresting performance of the evening” and noted that “if this playing is an example of what Bridge [Record Company] may have in store for us over the next 30 years, the future looks bright indeed.”

The Quartet has performed in many of the world’s leading musical venues, including Lincoln Center, Library of Congress, Musikverein (Vienna), Mozarteum (Salzburg), Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Cité de la Musique (Paris) and leading venues in Japan.
