(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Mike Doughty brings his world-renowned, award-winning “Question Jar Show” to Club Helsinki Hudson on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 9pm. The former Soul Coughing frontman will pick audience questions and requests out of a jar, and his loyal, fervent audience is wickedly good at coming up with extremely weird things to ask.

Although perhaps best known for his work with 1990s “deep slacker jazz” outfit Soul Coughing – whose proto-hipster sound was characterized by Doughty’s half-sung, half-spoken poetry that veered close to rap — Doughty has spent the last 15 years or so as a solo artist. A singer-songwriter, guitarist, poet, playwright, and photographer, Doughty has released five solo albums, several live albums, EDM tracks and remixes, a volume of poetry, and a memoir about drugs and his unhappy time in Soul Coughing.

Among his more recent recorded efforts are an album of 1970s covers, including songs by Cheap Trick, John Denver, and Stephen Sondheim, and an album that revisited songs he recorded with Soul Coughing in new versions that Doughty feels were more reflective of how he always wanted them to sound. In 2012, he released a two-disk live album called “The Question Jar Show,” featuring performances similar to the one he will be giving at Helsinki Hudson.
