(HUDSON, N.Y.) – New gallery Concepto Hudson (741 Warren St.) takes a bow with its inaugural exhibition, Meditation, which introduces six gallery artists – Malin Abrahamsson, Daniel Derwelis, Juan Hinojosa, Kiyoshi Ike, Dallas Owens and Zach Seeger. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 5 to 7pm, for the exhibition, which runs through June 1, 2014.

Meditation explores various manifestations of the creative process – how these artists ?nd their eureka moment when inspiration becomes tangible.            Through the contemplation process and the realization of concepts into various mediums, these six artists ?nd stimulating and diverse outcomes.

The mixed media paintings of Malin Abrahamsson transform the urban perspective with mundane objects and landscapes creating her own world – a reality blur with soft hues painted over mixed media.

The paintings of Daniel Derwelis convey a feeling of solitude and contemplation. His subjects inhabit their own realities, unconcerned with the outside world yet at the same time inviting the viewer to enter and explore their worlds.

Juan HinojosaThe collage works of Juan Hinojosa manifest his social commentary, showing his amusement and stinging condemnation of consumption in our society. Utilizing precise cut-outs made from periodicals and juxtaposing them in just the right places, his work looks colorful and happy, yet underneath are ruminations on its dark side.

The monochrome silver installation work by Kiyoshi Ike consists of found objects from the streets of Brooklyn and items from 99 cent stores which are covered with cut aluminum tape, creating an altar for the things once loved but now discarded – a manifestation of our throw-away society.

The primal, creature-like sculptures of Dallas Owens are deceiving in their appearance, concealing re?ections of his political stance and beliefs about life in general. Their unexpectedness is an emphatic success.

Creating semi-abstract oil paintings, Zach Seeger contemplates the expression of imagery, color and negative space, impressing on the viewer an emotional state. His paintings are not process-based but they are proactive in the physical way he works with his materials. He instinctively feels his concept and delivers.
