(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – The Armen Donelian Trio will play music from its brand-new, critically acclaimed recording, Sayat-Nova: Songs of My Ancestors (Sunnyside Records) in a record release concert at Castle Street Café on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at 4pm. Joining pianist Donelian are bassist David Clark and drummer George Schuller.

In this new recording by Donelian, available as a double CD, Sayat-Nova’s exquisite 18th-century troubadour melodies are preserved, transformed through an alchemy of contemporary jazz harmony and polyrhythm, and polished with a classical aesthetic. Attendees will be invited to meet with the artist after the concert, when a CD autograph session will take place.

The program – an “Editor’s Pick” in this month’s Downbeat Magazine – is part of the celebration of national Jazz Appreciation Month sponsored by Berkshires Jazz.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance at Berkshires Jazz or at the door.
