(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Singer-songwriters Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell brought their new duet effort, the Pine Hill Project, featuring producer-multi-instrumentalist-bandleader-extraordinaire Larry Campbell, to Club Helsinki Hudson on Saturday night.

Backed by Justin Guip on drums and Jeffrey Hill on electric bass, the two singers traded lead vocals and harmonized with each other on a selection of tunes from their upcoming Pine Hill Project album, which features songs written by a variety of contemporary songwriters, including Gillian Welch, Dave Carter, Nick Lowe and even U2.

They also peppered their set with several of their own tunes, including a rocking, “Exile on Main Street”-era Rolling Stones-ish version of Shindell’s “Are You Happy Now.”

The multitalented and forceful Larry Campbell and his musical and life duet partner, Teresa Williams, warmed up the audience with a set of roots music, showcasing Williams’s powerful country twang and Campbell’s deft playing on acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin and fiddle.
