Affordable Housing Agency Holding Annual Fundraising Event

savethedateV2_front_outlines(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – Construct Inc. will host its annual MayFest event on Monday, May 13, 2013, at 5:30pm at Crissey Farm on Stockbridge Road. The celebration includes tastings from 25 area restaurants and wine vendors and live music by Sammy Brown with a Beatles theme. There will be a silent auction to raise money for all Construct programs and services that continue to serve the south Berkshire region in the upcoming year. Featured in the auction will be a one-of-kind opportunity to bid on Places I Remember: My Time with the Beatles, a limited edition of never-before published Beatles photographs by Henry Grossman.

There will be several exciting auction items to bid on in addition to the book, including a half-year spa membership at Cranwell, a half-season farm share at Wolfe Spring Farm, a golf package, a package of theatre tickets for two at the Mahaiwe Theatre, Barrington Stage and the Berkshire Theatre Group, and dinner for six in your home offered by The Hungry Hen. Corporate sponsors for the event include Herrington’s, Gennari’s Plumbing and Heating, RBC Wealth Management, Salisbury Bank, Berkshire Property Agents and Stone House Properties.

For over four decades, Construct has been a leader in the Berkshire’s fight against homelessness and for affordable housing.  Each year Construct helps prevent homelessness for over 600 households. An average of $35,000 is distributed directly each year to help families with rental or utilities emergencies. Construct shelters an average of 45 homeless men and women, provides employment services to 150 heads of household and youth, and adult education to an average of 30 homeless adult learners.

In addition to services, Construct also owns or manages of 82 units of affordable housing, specializing in small housing projects together with supportive services to those who are chronically homeless. The waiting lists for shelter beds has been longer than ever in Construct’s 15 years of shelter, with food, gasoline and utility costs were through the roof for most families who struggle to make ends meet.

More than 40 percent of Construct’s funding comes from the local community through private donations and events. Tickets to MayFest are $75 each.
