‘Prince of Chintz’ to Speak at The Mount

Mario Buatta(LENOX, Mass.) – Interior designer Mario Buatta, affectionately known as the “Prince of Chintz” because of his affinity for incorporating the glazed, bold fabric into his work, will deliver a talk on his expansive career decorating the homes of the rich and famous in the drawing room at The Mount on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at 4 p.m. A book signing and reception will follow Buatta’s talk.

Buatta’s talk coincides with the publication of Fifty Years of American Interior Decoration, a career retrospective written by Buatta with Emily Evans Eerdmans and published by Rizzoli New York.

Buatta has perfected the English Country House style for clients such as Henry Ford II, Barbara Walters, Malcolm Forbes, and Mariah Carey, and for Blair House, the Presidential guest quarters. Though acclaimed for sumptuous rooms that densely layer fine antiques, rich textiles and trimmings, and exuberant colors, Buatta also prides himself on creating rooms that look like they evolved over many years of collecting by generations, resulting in a lived-in atmosphere at once opulent and cozy.

In his talk, Buatta will share exclusive insights into his process and personal stories of his career in the world of American decorating. Tickets are $12 for the general public and $10 for Mount members. Seating is limited and reservations are strongly encouraged. For reservations call 413.551.5100 or visit The Mount.
