(HUDSON, N.Y.) – New paintings by John Lees, Janice Nowinski, Sara Roszak, and Dale Emmart and sculptures by Deborah Masters and Gillian Jagger will be on display at John Davis Gallery from Thursday, October 10, 2013, through Sunday, November 3, 2013. There will be a reception for the artists on Saturday, October 12, from 6pm to 8pm.

Artifacts, by Deborah Masters, were inspired by Italian ruins, particularly the remains of religious sites. Gillian Jagger’s And Then and Now: New Work from the Cave is inspired by prehistoric cave art in France.  The starting point for Sara Roszak’s Now and Then was a scene on the small island, Crihaven, off the coast of Maine, where from her cabin she saw a young eagle visiting rocky outcroppings nesting high on the top of a very tall pine tree at the waters edge.

Janice Nowinski says her recent paintings are chronicles of her life. “They spring from complicated love affairs, events, nature mortes and life’s minutiae.  Walnuts, empty wineglasses, lounging ladies and Bermuda clad imbibers are some of the protagonists that ignite and move my painterly investigation.”

Dale Emmart’s Smoke paintings use images generated by studies of smoke, exhaust, vapor and explosions “as a means of questioning what is equally a threat or a moment of beauty.”

Gallery hours are Thursday through Monday, 11-5p.m.
