(ALBANY, N.Y.) – Peter Wolf, best known as lead singer of the J. Geils Band, fronts his own group performing his signature mix of rock ‘n’ roll, blues, R&B and country, in the Sawyer Theatre at the Egg on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at 8pm as part of the American Roots & Branches concert series.
Peter Wolf’s life and career spans much of rock history. He was born in the Bronx, New York. He planned a career as an artist, but he got a job in the late 1960s as a disc jockey on Boston FM radio station WBCN and began exploring his interest in blues and R&B. He formed a group called the Hallucinations that performed with the Velvet Underground, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Van Morrison, John Lee Hooker, and Sun Ra.
He then became vocalist and frontman – and sometime ad hoc manager – of the J. Geils Band, ushering the group through to its greatest artistic commercial success in the late 1970s and early-‘80s.
Wolf and keyboard player Seth Justman were responsible for most of the songwriting in the band, which pretty much fell apart after their multimillion-selling “Freeze Frame,” in 1983.
