Jazz Supergroup to Play Number-One Pop Hits at Club Helsinki Hudson

Omaha Diner

Omaha Diner

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Omaha Diner, a jazz supergroup featuring guitarist Charlie Hunter, trumpeter Steven Bernstein, saxophonist Skerik and drummer Bobby Previte, will tackle the top of the pop charts, playing jazz versions of number-one pop hits from the 1950s to today, at Club Helsinki Hudson on Thursday, November 7, at 8pm

Omaha Diner plays the Top 40 like it has never been heard before. It isn’t about the songs themselves, but more about the musicians putting their unique spin on it. The only rule is that anything they play has to have reached number one on the pop charts. This means no more wondering what song the jazz group is playing: Omaha Diner draws from a wealth of familiar material by artists and groups including Beyoncé, the Rolling Stones, Van Halen, the O’Jays, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Dolly Parton, Prince, Elvis Presley, Henry Mancini, Billy Ocean, Adele, REO Speedwagon, Johnny Rivers, Rod Stewart, Roy Orbison, Boston, the Mamas and the Papas, the Eagles, Snoop Dogg, Sly and the Family Stone, Neil Diamond, the Beatles, Tears for Fears, George Michael, Three Dog Night, Ruby and the Romantics, Billy Idol, the Dave Clark Five, Santana, U2, the Lovin’ Spoonful, Milli Vanilli, Elton John, the Monkees, Aretha Franklin, the Byrds, Louis Armstrong, Culture Club, Meat Loaf, and Fleetwood Mac.

Between them, the four members of Omaha Diner boast 125 years of experience working in some capacity with an unlikely and astonishing array of artists including Aretha Franklin, Sting, John Mayer, Levon Helm, John Adams, Roswell Rudd, Linda Ronstadt, Pearl Jam, Elton John, My Morning Jacket, Courtney Love, the San Francisco Ballet, Sam Rivers, Marianne Faithfull, the Moscow Circus, Roger Waters, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Michael Tilson-Thomas, R.E.M., Johnny Copeland, Bonnie Raitt, Lukas Foss, the Meters, Ween, D’Angelo, Les Claypool, Alvin Ailey, Digable Planets, Sonny Sharrock, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Tom Waits.

Charlie Hunter is the definitive virtuoso of the seven-string guitar and a jam-rock icon; Skerik is the pioneer of saxophonics; Steven Bernstein is a Grammy nominee, a founding member of the Lounge Lizards, and the leader of Sex Mob, among several other groups; Bobby Previte, who recently moved to Hudson, is a recipient of the 2012 Guggenheim Fellowship for composition and the leader of the Voodoo Orchestra North, a regular jazz jam session at Club Helsinki Hudson devoted to exploring Miles Davis’s landmark jazz-funk album, “Bitches Brew.”
