Pop-Collage Duo Javelin Brings Otherworldly Sounds to MASS MoCA

Javelin(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – Boom box-wielding duo Javelin brings its witty, catchy collage of catchy melodies, ethereal vocals, synth-pop soundscapes and danceable rhythms to MASS MoCA‘s intimate Club B-10 on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at 8pm.

Founded in 2005 by multi-instrumentalist cousins George Langford (guitar, bass guitar, drums, and mandolin) and Tom Van Buskirk (cello and piano) in Providence, R.I., the Brooklyn-based band took four years to refine its pop-collage approach before releasing its first album. The band’s debut album, “Jamz N Jemz” – a mix-tape distributed in a CDR format – catapulted the band to wunderkind status, garnering Pitchfork’s “Best New Music” award and honorable mention on the site’s “Album of the Year” list.

Since then the duo has played its surrealist block party-in-a-box at venues throughout the U.S., Europe, and South America, including Lollapalooza, MoMA, and the Whitney Museum of Art. Unquestionably experimental, Javelin has incorporated an FM transmitter and a variety of boom boxes in past shows (b.y.o. boombox), producing an act Pitchfork enthusiastically calls “an otherworldly radio station based in some crate-digger bunker”. In 2010 Javelin signed to Luaka Bop, David Byrne’s psychedelic world music label, and earlier this year they released their first full studio album, “Hi Beam.”

Club B-10 is a casual venue on the third floor of the museum. A full bar, plus dinner and snacks from Lickety Split, are available before and during the show. Tickets are $12 in advance or $16 on the day of the show. Student tickets are $10. Members receive a 10% discount.
