The Brain Cloud to Bring Western Swing to MASS MoCA

brain cloud(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – New York sextet the Brain Cloud brings its brand of gypsy jazz dipped in Western swing to the Hunter Center for a dance party at MASS MoCA on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 8pm. Dance instruction will be provided by Jacob’s Pillow Dance, with support from the Irene Hunter Fund for Dance.

A New York City staple, the Brain Cloud is lauded by Time Out New York as “one of the city’s most dependably charming retro acts.” The group, composed of Dennis Lichtman on electric mandolin, fiddle and clarinet, vocalist Tamar Korn, Raphael McGregor on lap steel guitar, guitarist Skip Krevens, Andrew Hall on upright bass, and drummer Kevin Dorn, plays where jazz meets country at the high-stepping intersection of New Orleans and Nashville.

“Western swing is a quintessentially American music,” says multi-instrumentalist Lichtman. “A meeting point of all American music that had come before it – jazz (from ragtime through swing), bluegrass, Appalachian old-time fiddling, Tin Pan Alley, country, Mississippi Delta blues, western cowboy songs.”

A full bar, as well as dinner and snacks from Lickety Split, are available before and during the show. Tickets are $15 general, $10 for students. Members receive a 10% discount.
