Great Barrington EDM Duo Barely Alive Garnering Rave Reviews

Lost in the Internet(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – Barely Alive, rising international stars of the electronic dance music (EDM) scene from their base in Great Barrington, Mass., are garnering rave reviews for their uniquely styled dubstep, as heard on their brand-new EP, “Lost in the Internet.” The latest rave comes from YourEDM, in a review suggestively titled “Whoever Said Dubstep Is Nearly Dead Has Clearly Never Heard Of Barely Alive

Matt (Meier) and Willie (Watkins) record, produce, mix and perform as Barely Alive. They are both graduates of the terrific Monument Mountain Regional High School music program in Great Barrington, led by the amazing Jeff Stevens. Willie was primarily a drummer – although he could pick up any instrument, including keyboards, guitar, bass guitar, saxophone and trumpet and make music on it – and Matt was primarily a bassist. Matt and Willie also both grew up with guitar-playing fathers who were amateur musicians in the area and who shamed their sons into performing old fogey rock ‘n’ roll music with them when they still listened to what their fathers said.

And to make matters even worse, Willie’s dad is a rock critic, aka Seth Rogovoy, and I dragged him to every kind of show — rock, jazz, pop, you name it — beginning when he was around five years old. By the time he was 10, Willie had seen Springsteen and Dylan more times than I had by the time I was 30 or maybe even 40. Now, of course, he makes music about which his father knows nothing, which is only right.

In a short period of time, Barely Alive has garnered UK-based management and booking, and will be headed out on the road this summer in support of a major star of the EDM scene.

With Daft Punk just having won Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards, there has never been a time of such great interest and impact for EDM music as now, and Barely Alive is positioned to make its mark while bringing attention to this little corner of New England.
