NEW MASS MoCA INSTALLATION REIMAGINES WHISTLER’S ‘PEACOCK ROOM’
(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – An opening reception to celebrate Darren Waterston‘s installation Filthy Lucre – the centerpiece of his exhibition Uncertain Beauty at MASS MoCA takes place on Saturday, March 29, 2014, from 5 to 7pm. The exhibition, for which the artist has been in residency at MASS MoCA since July 2013, reimagines James McNeill Whistler’s decorative masterpiece Harmony in Blue and Gold: The Peacock Room (1876-77).
ENVIRONMENTAL FILMS GET FREE SCREENINGS at TRIPLEX, MAHAIWE
(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – The fourth annual Project Native Film Festival kicks off with a free screening of Revolution on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 7pm, at the Mahaiwe. The festival continues on Sunday, March 30, at the Triplex Cinema, with free screenings of eight films from 10am to 9:30pm. The films cover a wide-range of current environmental topics including salmon farming, GMOs, Tar sands, invasive Asian Carp, fracking and industrial hemp.
MONOLOGUES ABOUT MOTHERHOOD at THE UNICORN
(STOCKBRIDGE, Mass.) – Two-time Tony Award-nominee Jayne Atkinson will direct a benefit production of Motherhood Out Loud at Berkshire Theatre Group’s Unicorn Theatre in Stockbridge on Friday, March 28, and Saturday, March 29, 2014, as part of the Berkshire Festival of Women Writers. Proceeds from the production, co-produced by Atkinson and Susan Rose, will benefit WAM Theatre and the Berkshire Festival of Women Writers.
PUPPET SHOW to FOCUS on HOMELESS and HUNGRY
(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – Who’s Hungry, an experimental puppet show based on the oral histories of homeless and hungry individuals, will be presented at the North Adams Puppet Lab at 107 Main St., on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 7:30pm. The show was created by Bessie Award-winner Dan Froot and directed by Obie Award-winner Dan Hurlin.
BINDLESTIFF CIRKUS CONCLUDES WINTER RESIDENCY at HELSINKI HUDSON
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Hudson’s own Bindlestiff Family Cirkus concludes its three-month winter residency hosting a monthly cabaret, featuring a variety of circus, theater, comedy and musical entertainers, at Club Helsinki Hudson this weekend with two shows – Saturday, March 29, at 9pm; and a matinee show on Sunday, March 30, at 3pm, geared to the whole family. Audience members attending in costume will receive a discounted admission.
