(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Quiet in the Head, an acoustic trio playing Middle Eastern- and Gypsy-influenced music, performs at Spotty Dog Books & Ale on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at 8pm, followed by a triple-bill of electronic music acts on Saturday, May 10, at 8pm.

Quiet In The Head is the ongoing musical project of guitarist Seamus Maynard and violinist Jonathan Talbott. Their original music has evolved over many years of playing together and is always an exploration of texture and melody. There are echoes of familiar influences such as tango, Middle Eastern and Eastern European Gypsy music but ultimately they search far and wide for new sounds. They will be accompanied by Jonah Thomas on cello.

On Saturday night, Spotty Dog presents a triple bill featuring Blacklight Lighthouse, Matt Weston, and Parashi. Blacklight Lighthouse is an Albany-based duo, a collaboration between two artists who work in collage mode with sound and video. They build cinematic, improvisational layers of sound using loops, effects and samples with a variety of analog, digital and acoustic instrumentation.

Matt Weston plays percussion and electronics and has performed throughout the US and in Europe. He has studied and/or collaborated with Arthur Brooks, Bill Dixon, Kevin Drumm, Paul Flaherty, Charles Gayle, Milford Graves, Mary Halvorson, Le Quan Ninh, Bob Marsh, Ben Miller (ex-Destroy All Monsters), Roger Miller (Mission of Burma), Jim O’Rourke, William Parker, Ken Vandermark, Jack Wright, and many others. His work has earned critical praise from such publications as the Wire, the Village Voice, Signal To Noise, Cadence, All About Jazz, Grooves, and Bananafish. His solo works have garnered international acclaim as have his recordings with Barn Owl, Tizzy, and Thrillpillow. He has recorded for the Tautology, Sachimay, Breaking World Records, Imvated, Crank Satori, BoxMedia, and Drag City labels.

Parashi has been releasing material since 2010; its sole member is Mike Griffin. He is also a member of Burnt Hills, Urkas, and Mensheviks. Additionally, Parashi has collaborated on releases with Rambutan, Fossils from the Sun, and Belltone Suicide; Parashi has also collaborated with poet Bill Shute, 1983, and CASE.
