Amanda McBroom to Perform Broadway Love Songs at Barrington Stage

Amanda McBroom(PITTSFIELD, Mass.) – Cabaret singer Amanda McBroom will inaugurate the 2014 season at Mr. Finn’s Cabaret with “Let’s Fall in Love,” a program of songs of romance by Broadway songwriters including Cole Porter, Jacques Brel, Sammy Cahn, and Jerome Kern, as well as her own compositions, at Barrington Stage Company on Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17, 2014, at 8pm, and on Sunday, May 18, at 5pm. McBroom will be accompanied on piano by Michele Brourman.

Amanda McBroom first came to the attention of the music public when Bette Midler’s version of McBroom’s song “The Rose” hit number one in 1979. But it was McBroom’s performance of her own song on the Golden Globes (she won), the Grammys (she didn’t) and The Tonight Show that launched her career as a singer as well as songwriter.

Her songs have been recorded by the likes of Bette Midler, Leanne Rimes, Barry Manilow, Judy Collins, Barbara Cook, Anne Murray, Harry Belafonte, Betty Buckley, Stephanie Mills, the Manhattan Transfer, Donny Osmond, the Chipmunks, and the Baby Dinosaurs in Land Before Time (she wrote all the songs for 11 Universal Cartoon videos).

Michele Brourman (Music Director) is a singer/songwriter and a winner of the Johnny Mercer Songwriting Award. Her songs have been recorded by Michael Feinstein, Olivia Newton-John, Cleo Laine, Margaret Whiting, Rita Coolidge, Donny Osmond, and Sheena Easton, as well as by cabaret artists including Amanda McBroom, Heather Macrae, Karen Mason, Sharon McKnight, Sally Mayes, and Billy Stritch. Her best-known song, “My Favorite Year,” has become a standard in the world of cabaret.

Named for William Finn, the two-time Tony Award-winning composer/lyricist of Falsettos and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Artistic Producer of BSC’s Musical Theatre Lab, Mr. Finn’s Cabaret celebrates its third season with an eclectic mix of performers from May through October as part of Barrington Stage Company’s 20th Anniversary Season. Mr. Finn’s Cabaret is located on the lower level of the Sydelle and Lee Blatt Performing Arts Center at 36 Linden Street in Pittsfield. Barrington Stage is now offering reserved seating for all cabaret performances at Mr. Finn’s Cabaret.
